Book Review: Hard Eight by Janet Evanovich

*SPOILERS!!!* This… This is the novel where Stephanie and Ranger finally hook up. So… why am I so dissatisfied? Well, think about it. We didn’t get any Joe/Stephanie action for four novels. Four novels, at 300 pages a piece, that’s 1200 pages. It was one of the greatest sex scenes of all time, so it was worth it!  Now tack on another four novels for us to get to Ranger/Stephanie. That’s 2400 pages. No Hobbit went further to throw an all powerful evil ring into an active volcano than we readers read to get to this. Ranger… tall, dark, mythically handsome, wicked, sometimes evil, dangerous… you get the picture—I’m seeing the Rock myself. Then read the two lines of text that constitute their sex scene. I’m paraphrasing: Ranger ruined me for all other men… in the morning he did it again. Huh? What? WHAT?????—Alice Bello is the author of Hate Him XOXO and Better off Dead.

Book Review: One for the Money by Janet Evanovich

Janet Evanovich taught me that I liked… no, that I LOVED funny in my reading material. Before Janet and Carl Hiaasen I read the most depressing things. And thus wrote nothing but the most depressing fiction. So I owe her a debt of gratitude.  One for the Money, the first of her—what? 21 Stephanie Plum novels?—is a comic/mystery/thriller gem. From how she became a bounty hunter—laid off as a lingerie buyer, car repossessed, blackmailing her slimy cousin Vinnie for the job. Pure gold. And then there’s her hatred/attraction to Joe Morelli, the bad boy who took her virginity behind the eclaire case, never called, that she ran over with her father’s car, and is now a disgraced cop hiding from the authorities, and Stephanie is going to try and catch him. Oh, it’s so damn sexy. And then there is LULA! No actress alive would be able to play Lula. She is truly one of a kind. Run, don’t walk, and read One for the Money.
